The Story
My name is Kiana.

I'm an artist, filmmaker and activist based in Glasgow, Scotland.
I'm also a beauty and skincare aficionado.

I have SMA Type 2 - or Spinal Muscular Atrophy - which amongst many things, means my breathing is much weaker than usual.

As a child, I ignored my health and use acetone-based nail varnish, even though it made me breathless. Because let's face it... sometimes beauty and self-expression comes with a price.

As I got older, I ditched nail varnish in exchange for breathing.
Instead I developed a taste for other luxury make-up products, but quickly realised how unethical most established brands are - whether it's using toxic ingredients, polluting the environment, using animal by-products or animal testing.
For a while I gave up using my favourite products. But now I've realised the only way to make change is to be the change.
With Kal, I want to build an inclusive and ethical brand - where you won't have to choose
between your health, ethics and products you love.

It's going to take some time - and I need you to be patient especially with some of the accessibility features, which will require investment and funding.

I am currently building this business from the ground up. I am not a celebrity [yet] with a ready-to-re-package formula bought from a big beauty company. This is truly coming from my lived experience with a unique, innovative product - formulated by my dad who is an industrial chemist with over 30 years of experience in his field.

I want to make a brand where you, and I, can have it all!
